i;ve got a viral infection. not glandular not simple tonsilities.
and thanks to you, i made it to the cabrini ed to see my fav ed doctor tony. it was 3am, i had woken up multiple times with chest pain, i vomitted and was still running a stupidly high temperature despite all the meds that i had taken and luckily u took me seriously this time and drove me to the hosp. i was glad that ED was for once empty and that the nurses there were pple i had done my ed shifts last yr with.. but still, the thought of me being a patient in the hosp i used to work in was scary. i had a bed and a room more or less to myself.. till i had tony take a history and do an exam. he was still being funny about the whole thing.. saying that i had come to visit... and no i didint look too well. hahaha. he even said i cld write my own history. hahaha. but i decided to let him do the honours. after palpating my really swollen neck n doing a full cvs and resp ex.. he said that i had a systolic flow murmur! and passed me his stethoscope so i cld have a listen. as bb was there too, he asked him to have a listen as well. but us being really amateur with flow murmurs, cldnt hear anything.
while all this was happening, sai-rong my lovely nurse came pass. and she came later to take my bloods and connect a drip and yes, do an ecg too. i was still scared at getting my iv line in. i never liked needles, more so having a needle myself. jabs are okay cos they are one off. but with the iv line, the pain continues till its out. so i was hooked up to a bag of saline.. and was basically bedbound. n still freezing. had a temp of 39 degrees... and i was given IV nsaids and other pain meds so i cld take a rest.. while the bloods n serology were being done in pathology. isnt it amazing how i cld be so scared of a stupid needle. what was even stupider was that bb knew i was scared, n he wldnt hold my hand or try and distract me cos he only wanted to be know was 'my friend'. thanks. its kinda obvious to my lovely ed staff that u are my best friend. oh wells. so yeah.. he was actually offered the chance to do my drip, but i think he was too scared to hurt me. (well done, u;ve hurt me more than once, what can a small needle do.. not much harm really)
anyways, so i got like 2 hours of intermittent shut eye. got my path results photocopied for me..cos they were not very exciting. hahaha. and tony wanted me to know my own results. heehee. and they started chasing the ebv serology from 5am and i got it at almost 9am! so while all that happened, i had more fluid, cos i was clearly dehydrated. and my left arm, where the drip was, was freezing cos of all the saline. it was scary.. cos i was still hot all over but my arm was cold.
tony advised before his handover that if i cldnt tolerate fluids that it wld be best for me to stay in hosp for at least 24-48 hours till i;m hydrated. cos he doesnt want me to collapse on the road. and that he was worried that i didnt have private health cover and if i wld be okay to fork out the fees. isnt he nice. in the end, when i had to pay, he charged me as staff, even though he knew i was no longer staff. he's amazing.
so yes, i had a total of 3L of normal saline (cold salty water) pumped into me. took a million nsaid iv so i wld feel better. tried to get fluids down, but not much. but its been a good experience. i came back home feeling drained.. i;ve been feeling drained all week really... but more hydrated. although now, i feel that i might need lots of cold saline again..cos my body's temp keeps gg up. and my head is starting to spin.
so yes my best friend, if u are reading this, i need u here to look after me. what cld be more impt that a best friend right? (well, to u, maybe all the hot chicks. but seriously, i;m not well)
